We are nearly half way through summer break, and after a super scheduled, jam packed school year, I am enjoying the lazier days of summer. There is still work to be done and learning that needs to take place, but our days are way less structured, and there is plenty of time for summer fun.

I like scheduling a camp or two each for my girls and Vacation Bible School is always a highlight of their summer, but there are weeks where they are perfectly entertained in our back yard, playing with their neighborhood friends. We have a crew of about 7 kids who converge in our back yard regularly, playing on our play set, exploring in the woods, making mud pies and bug traps, blowing bubbles and having good old fashioned fun. It’s amazing to me how they can entertain themselves for hours on end without a huge array of toys (or electronics!). I love it!

My kids don’t need much intervention from me to feed their imagination – they do a pretty good job of creating things to do themselves. However, I like to literally feed them with yummy snacks, especially on the days when they are outside for hours, or when it is super hot. If I can find snacks that promote a healthy lifestyle, I feel a little bit like a super star. ;-)

I first started purchasing Horizon Organic products when my now 9 year old was a baby. Back then, mainly sought out organic milk and milk boxes. Today, Horizon offers much more than dairy products! They have a great line of snacks that includes Fruit Snacks, Super Squeeze Pouches, and Crackers.

Here are just a few of the Horizon Snacks available:

These snacks are super portable which is also important on days when we are heading to our local parks to letterbox (kind of like geo-caching), spending the day at our local water park or hitting the road for a fun adventure. My kids always seem to be hungry, so taking snacks on the go is a must. I like keeping a gallon sized freezer bag with pre-packaged (and heat resistant) snacks in my van at all times. I replenish it probably once a week. I also take a small lunch box sized cooler filled with juice boxes and small water bottles (and an ice pack), so that we aren’t tempted to grab drinks in a drive through. It saves us time, calories and money.
