healthier snacking on the go cvs pharmacyYesterday morning I took some time to vacuum my van, and I am forever amazed at how much food I suck out of it in a given month. Sometimes I wonder if we eat in our car more than the average family?! I do know that we tend to eat in the car and on the run a lot more during the school year due to practices and school events and weekend road trips to visit family, and I like to be prepared! If we have snacks on hand in the car, we do a much better job of skipping the drive thru – saving us both money and calories. (See: How I am Saving Money on Snacks for more ideas).

In addition to having snacks on hand in the car, I like to have baggies of snacks made up for my husband to grab for work. I am loving the great variety of healthier snacks that I am finding at CVS. I share a little bit about the new Gold Emblem Abound product line with you last week, and how I am using Gold Emblem Abound products in my daughter’s lunches. Today I wanted to talk about some of the trail and snack mix items that my family has been enjoying!

I love that Gold Emblem Abound products contain no artificial preservatives or flavors and 0 grams of trans fat. It’s so easy to run in to my local CVS/pharmacy store quickly to grab snacks that I feel good about giving to my family.

When I get my act together, I like to spend some time on Sunday nights dividing our snacks into snack baggies for the upcoming week. This makes our snacks easy to grab, and it helps to limit our portions. I could easily eat an entire bag of CVS Gold Emblem Abound Dark Chocolate, Fruit & Nut Trail Mix or CVS Gold Emblem Abound Sweet & Nutty Probiotic Trail Mix in one sitting, so portion control is key here. So yummy!!

It only takes a few minutes for me to assemble the baggies (as seen in the image above), and I store them in a blue tupperware container in the pantry for easy access. In addition to the trail mixes, we are loving CVS Gold Emblem Abound Raw Natural Almonds – they are sodium free and very filling.

This morning I was out running errands and when I stopped in to my local CVS/pharmacy store I couldn’t resist grabbing a snack to go with my unsweetened iced tea. It was hard to stop eating this! I love the combination of sweet, tart and salty. As the weather cools, I’ll be able to keep trail mix with chocolate in the van. I’m not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing! ;-)

Today I used $4 in ExtraBucks Rewards to score a great deal on my Gold Emblem Abound purchases. Check out my post on 7 Ways to Maximize Your CVS ExtraCare Program Savings to learn more about saving at CVS. You can also view my weekly CVS/pharmacy sale and coupon match ups here.

I spent some time going up and down the snack aisles to see what variety of Gold Emblem Abound products my local store is currently carrying. I love the bright green packaging – it makes it easy for me to locate my favorite products. Speaking of variety, I’m excited to try those Rice Pop Clusters…
