You could spend a fortune at the store on various facial masks, but really you need look no further than your kitchen to find all that you need. Homemade facial masks are cheaper, better for the environment and most importantly better for your skin. Your skin is the largest organ in your body. You can avoid harmful chemicals by doing your own easy DIY facial with natural ingredients found at home!

The following basic ingredients from your kitchen will create your own facial masks to improve your skin:

Egg Whites – Egg whites will tighten up the pores and reduce oily skin.

Honey – Honey will tighten up the skin and hydrate your face. Honey also has natural anti-bacterial properties that will help reduce inflammation and acne.

Yogurt – Yogurt will help smooth out your skin and reduce acne since it is naturally anti-fungal and anti-bacterial.

Baking Soda – Baking soda will help tighten your pores and reduce blackheads. (see: 15 Frugal Uses for Baking Soda)

Bananas – Bananas are great for smoothing the skin and work really well with sensitive skin.

Oatmeal – Oatmeal will help moisturize the skin and reduce redness and inflammation. Oatmeal will also help soak up excess oil on skin.

Avocados – Avocados are great for dry skin.

Here are 6 Easy, Frugal DIY Recipes for Face Masks using basic ingredients from your kitchen:

1) Basic Egg White Mask – Simply crack an egg and remove the yolk. Mix up gently with a fork and apply to your face. I did this all the time in college and it worked great. This egg white mask will tighten your pores and reduce acne and blackheads. Leave on for 10-15 minutes or until dry and then wash off with warm water.

2) Hydrating Facial Mask – Honey is a great hydrating skin care item, but is obviously too sticky to use alone. Mix a teaspoon with a tablespoon or two of plain yogurt for a great moisturizing mask. Leave on for 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water.

3) Moisturizing & Firming Mask – Mash up a small amount of avocado (1/4 should be fine) and add 1 teaspoon of honey and an egg yolk. Smooth over face and neck. Relax for 20 – 30 minutes and rinse well.

4) Homemade Masks for Oily Skin – Cook up a small amount of oatmeal (or set aside some from your breakfast) and mix with 1 teaspoon of honey. This will soak up oil and firm up your skin.

5) Facial Mask for Blackheads – Make a paste of baking soda and water and smooth over the area. Massage into the skin gently and leave on for 10 minutes or so. Rinse with warm water to remove. This also gently exfoliates your skin.

6) Acne Mask – Mash up 1/2 of a banana, add 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Blend well and smooth over face. Once it dries rinse with warm water.

With all of these masks, make sure to start with a clean face. Rinse with warm water to open your pores before applying the masks. I have tried all of these and my skin looked great after each one.
