Have you ever heard the saying “Work smarter, not harder”? Well this WFMW tip personifies that saying. I am almost embarrassed to share this tip because it is such a common sense one, and yet it was something I never did, so I figure there may be a few others out there in the same boat.

My old way of doing laundry was to wash and dry all of my clothes, and then to drag them into my master bedroom to pile them on the bed. Where in theory, I would fold and put them away before bed time…but unfortunately that rarely happened. That means I would end up with huge piles of clothes all over my bedroom…which was frustrating and messy to say the least.

One day I was talking to one of my friends on the phone and she told me about how she hated when her husband did laundry because he always took the clothes from the dryer and threw them in baskets (sorry friend, but I would take what I could get in this department!!) . She was frustrated that the clothes would be wrinkled before she got to them…not to mention the extra time it takes to do laundry with this wasted step. When she said these words a bell went off in my head, and I asked her what she meant. That’s when she told me that she folds and hangs her clothes as they come out of the dryer.

Ever since, the new rule in my house is that clothes don’t come out of the dryer unless you are going to fold them, or put them on your body. This saves me so much time because I am not dragging laundry that belongs in other rooms of the house into my bedroom. And while I still don’t get the folded piles of clothing put away as well as I should, searching through a stack of nicely folded clothing is A LOT less frustrating than digging through a tangle of clothes on the bed (or floor!).

So there you have it…my (DUH) tip for saving time on laundry. I’m all about saving what little sanity I have, so thanks to my friend for making this suggestion. Now if I could just figure out how to stay on top of the dirty dishes! :-)

Have a great day!
