In March, I wrote a post about Warehouse Clubs and asked if you thought they are worth the cost of membership. Our membership at Sam’s Club was up for renewal a couple of weeks ago, and I was torn. For all the more that I have gone there lately, I wasn’t sure that the $40 fee was worth it.
In the end, we decided not to renew our membership. Here are some of our reasons for making this decision:
* We are not a large family, therefore we don’t have to buy everything in bulk
* Driving to Sam’s is about twice as far from our home as driving to the grocery and drug stores that we frequent
* I have been able to stock up and get better deals at grocery and drug stores without paying a membership fee
* I could never get out of there spending less than $150 (it was often more like $200) which is nearly half of my monthly grocery budget
In a pinch, I can always go to Sam’s with my mom or one of my friends who has a membership.
So I guess we’ll take this year off from warehouse clubs. I’ll know in due time if I regret this decision or not.
How about you? Have you recently made the same decision, or are you a loyal warehouse club shopper? Or have you never stepped foot in a warehouse club?
