easy green smoothie recipe

Well folks, the new year is upon us, and this year holds significance for me because it is my year of 40. I’m not feeling as panicked about turing 40 as I did about turing 30, or even 35, but I am realizing that the “I can take care of myself later” mentality isn’t serving me so well anymore! No one is going to do it for me, and if I continue to put self care off, it’s going to catch up to me sooner rather than later.

One of my big goals for 2018 is to start eating better – not to lose weight (although that would be great!), but to make sure that my body is getting the nutrients that it needs to stay healthy. I have always been good about making sure that my kids get their daily fruits and veggies, but when it comes to my husband and I? Not so much! That’s why I have decided to seek out simple ways for us to incorporate more fruits and veggies in to our diet. Smart snacking and regular lunch packing are also on my list.

All of these goals mean I need to be more intentional about menu planning and shopping regularly, but you know how it is. Work, kids, and crazy schedules can tend to try to get in the way. That’s why I was pretty excited when I saw that my local Giant Eagle store is now offering home grocery delivery! You might remember me sharing my experiences with Giant Eagle Curbside Express, and while I am still a huge fan of ordering my groceries and picking them up, having the option for grocery delivery is pretty exciting too.

This past week I decided to get my feet wet and place my first Giant Eagle Curbside Express Delivery order. If you are already familiar with ordering groceries from Giant Eagle and picking them up, you’ll find this process to be very similar. When I think about in home grocery delivery, to me it’s perfect for new parents, busy work weeks, weeks when everyone in your household is sick, and for when you are returning home from vacation.

Here is how it works!

First, head over to the Giant Eagle website and log in to your account HERE.

After you click “Start Shopping”, you can enter your zipcode to see if your store offers delivery.

Once you have confirmed that your store does indeed offer delivery (yay!), select the “delivery” option on the right as seen below.

Selecting a time slot is the same as it is with Curbside pick up. There is a service fee of $12.95, but your first delivery order is FREE!

Here are a few notes about delivery:

  • Orders must be placed by 11:59 PM for next day delivery.
  • You can place an order up to 7 days in advance.
  • Orders are delivered from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM in one-hour time slots that you choose at checkout.
  • You CAN use eCoupons on delivery orders – just be sure that your eCoupons are clipped to your Giant Eagle Advantage card. (paper coupons aren’t accepted at this time)
  • You earn fuelperks! on your delivery orders – just like you do on your in store purchases

After selecting a delivery time, compete your shopping (use “shopping history” to speed up the process!) and be sure to enter any notes that you have for your personal shopper in the notes field off to the right (or see my banana note below):

When placing your first Giant Eagle Curbside Express Delivery, note that your service fee should be credited like mine was:

One difference between Curbside pick up vs Delivery is that you have to pay for your order online. You have the option to use a one time payment, or to save your payment for future orders which is nice.

So what kind of items can you order for in home delivery? As you can see, I ordered pretty much anything you can imagine! From laundry detergent, to toilet paper, to water bottles and produce, I was able to have all of my favorite grocery and household items delivered to my home. It was pretty awesome! Now I have no excuse to be out of fresh produce or lean proteins…even with our crazy schedules I can set myself up for success by ordering my groceries online via Giant Eagle Curbside Express Delivery. (Note that alcohol, tobacco and gift cards are not eligible for delivery.)

On the whole I had a great experience with Giant Eagle Curbside Express Delivery! I love that my personal shoppers call me with questions about substitutions and to ask any questions that they might have. I have always had GREAT customer service with the Curbside Express staff at my local Giant Eagle. While I can’t see myself using the delivery service every week, I can definitely see myself using it on a regular basis. It is so convenient to order my groceries ahead and have them delivered after a long day at work or after we get home from sports practices – and I literally have zero excuses left to not eat healthy now that I don’t have to leave the comforts of my own home to have fresh produce delivered to my door. ;-)

Now, back to my health goals! In an effort to consume more fruits and veggies this year, I started making this super easy, super delicious Green Smoothie once a day for my husband and I. It’s less than 200 calories and is great for breakfast or a snack. In fact, I’m so excited about it that I just had to share. If the thought of green smoothies freak you out, please give this one a try. I promise you, it’s tasty, and so, so easy to make!
