online healthcare

The life of a busy mom is a constant juggling act! Taking care of the kids, working, volunteering, managing a household and more can leave little time for your own mental health and sanity. As me how I know! ;-) I have been a parent for almost 10 years now, and one thing that I learned early on that I don’t function well without occasional time for me. That can be going on a date with my husband, having dinner with friends, or reading a book on my patio. Whatever it looks like, those few hours of “me” time allow me to recharge and to be a better mom to my kids.

Sometimes alone time isn’t enough. Over the years I have sought out therapy to work through a few stumbling blocks that I couldn’t seem to get my mind past. And while those sessions were never wasted, I often found it difficult to make the time to schedule and attend them. It’s so easy to prioritize everything else over ME (and grocery shopping, laundry, exercising, play dates, more laundry…) I’m guessing some of you can relate!

Recently I learned about Amwell – the nation’s largest telehealth company. What exactly IS telehealth, you ask? Telehealth is healthcare, available to you 24/7 ONLINE and from the comfort of your own home. Skeptical? Please, stay with me.

Amwell employs board-certified, licensed doctors, dieticians and psychologists for immediate and live, online visits—day or night, on either mobile or desktop. Amwell takes your privacy very seriously. Visits with their doctors, dieticians and psychologists are secure and HIPAA compliant and are accepted by many major insurers, with more added every day!

Here are a few examples of situations in which Amwell therapy can help:

  • Trauma and Loss
  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Infertility Stress
  • Changes in Mood
  • Postpartum Support
  • Parenting Issues
  • Anger Management
  • Financial Challenges
  • Substance Abuse
  • Relationship issues

With Amwell, you can talk with a therapist on your schedule – and best of all, you can do it from the privacy and comfort of your own home! That means no more traffic, waiting rooms, or babysitters — just you, your device (smartphone, tablet or computer) and your provider. Amwell’s behavioral health services are available nationwide and include a network of more than 350 therapists, social workers and psychologists.

Last week I scheduled my first therapy appointment with an Amwell provider. It was a really easy process! First I went to the Amwell website and set up an account. Then, I called the toll free number on their website to schedule my appointment. (My only complaint is I wish I could have scheduled my own appointment online). After I set up my appointment I received email confirmation. I then received an email 15 minutes prior to my appointment time with a link to my online session.

I had a few technical difficulties during my session, but overall it was a great experience. I loved that I was able to schedule a therapy session after my kids were in bed for the night! I didn’t have to hassle with juggling our schedules around. I found the online session to be just as effective as an in person one. In fact, I might have been a little less inhibited than I would have been in a face to face setting! The therapist I spoke with gave me several things to mull over, and I scheduled another appointment on my own accord, because I found it to be that helpful.

I can see this easy access to behavioral healthcare to be a huge benefit to not just busy moms, but to people who live in remote areas, people who don’t like to leave home, and more!

Amwell is the first telehealth service awarded accreditation by The American Telemedicine Association, and the first platform to integrate with Apple’s Health App. Currently, Amwell is the only service that allows you to select the doctore that you want to see, for an on-demand visit (in some cases).

Here are a few great reasons to give Amwell a try:

Lower Cost

In-office visits cost, on average, $165 for first-time patients according to the Healthcare Blue Book. Amwell offers a $79-95 therapist or psychologist visit – a savings of $80+ per visit. Insurers are beginning to cover telehealth visits as well, rendering the cost of the visit to be just the copay!

Amwell offers after hours and weekend appointments which is great for busy moms, people who feel too sick to drive or those who are unable to get away from work during typical office hours.

You can get in with a provider fast! Same day and/or on demand appointments are sometimes available! For me personally, I was able to get in next day. The best part of this is all appointments are from the comfort and convenience of your own home. No babysitters needed, no time taken off from work, no hassle and total privacy!

Your First Visit is $1

Amwell wants you to try your first therapy session for $1, so that you can see what you think! Simply use Coupon Code SOULCARE when you are connecting to your first appointment, and the fees for that appointment will be $1!

If you give telehealth a try, I would love to hear what you think!
