Last Friday I had the opportunity to attend the Seattle’s Best Coffee Red Cup Showdown at the Ohio State Fair. This event was hosted by Food Network Star Jeff Mauro. It was a lot of fun to watch contestants share their amazing coffee creations (using Seattle’s Best Coffee of course!) with Jeff and the other judges. Doesn’t this drink look amazing? It was called the Orange Blossom Morning and had real whipped cream on top. It also happens to be the first prize winner:
Here is a picture of the winners with the judges. The woman who won first place (Karen Halderman of Cincinnati) was also celebrating her birthday that day. What an awesome birthday present!
In addition to watching contestants compete for the chance to win a a trip to NYC, $10,000 and the chance to for their recipe to appear on the Seattle’s Best Coffee menu, I also had the opportunity to speak with Jeff after the competition. He was every bit as nice and down to earth in person as he appears to be on TV. He said that the Ohio contestants really “brought it” with clean flavors and great drinks. He also mentioned that it was fitting that a midwestern contestant would be the first to incorporate meat into their drink. (bacon, and I guess it was yummy!). :-) Jeff is currently filming a new series for the Food Network called $24 in 24 Hours, and had recently been in Cleveland. I’m excited to watch the show when it debuts this fall!

After the competition I had fun catching up with fellow Columbus blogger Ellen, and meeting Samantha. Then it was time to head out in the hot sun to the HUGE Seattle’ s Best truck set up on the midway. They were handing out free iced coffee samples. Can you say YUM? (My favorite was the caramel pretzel mocha):
In addition to having a prize wheel, and handing out free samples of coffee to make at home, you could also have your picture taken in a giant red coffee mug. Here I am getting “mugged”:
Attending the Seattle’s Best Red Cup Showdown was a lot of fun, and I had an awesome day at the Ohio State fair with my family! Next up on the Red Cup Showdown tour is the Wisconsin State Fair. If you live in the area, be sure to head out this weekend (August 3-5, 2012) to partake in all of the fun!
