Kalahari Resorts Review + Giveaway

by Marcy on September 15, 2011 · 80 comments

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Kalahari Resorts for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

A few weeks ago I mentioned that my family was taking an end of the summer trip to Sandusky, OH to check out Kalahari Resorts. We thought this would be a fun way to end the summer before my oldest daughter started kindergarten.

We headed north on a Friday afternoon, and arrived at Kalahari a little after dinner time. I was extremely excited to find that we were staying in one of Kalahari’s many suites for the evening – which was perfect for the kids! We had a full kitchen, 2 full baths, a living/dining area, fireplace, 2 balconies, and 2 bedrooms – 1 with a king bed and 1 with 2 queen beds. My husband and I were able to put the kids down to sleep in their own bedroom and enjoy a drink before bed that night, which was SO nice. Here is a picture of the suite we stayed in (the picture does not do it full justice):

It was so nice to have a kitchen in our suite because we were able to feed the girls breakfast before heading down to experience the indoor water park.

Before leaving I snapped this photo of the outdoor water park from our balcony:

We spent our day at the indoor water park, but I would love to go back some time and explore the outdoor area – it looked so nice!

Speaking of the indoor water park, here is the only (blurry) picture I snapped of the action in there. It was difficult to juggle the camera and both kids, so this was the best I could do:

In a word this place was GINORMOUS! There was so much to do! I loved that there was truly something for everyone – from toddlers to folks there without kids, there was a section of the water park for everyone! We made use of the lockers to stash our belongings, and ate lunch at one of the many restaurants serving up food – which was very convenient. You aren’t allowed to take your own food into the actual parks with you, but you can take food to your room which is a great option if you are on a budget.

We stayed the night before going to the park. If I had to do it over again, I probably would have done it the other way around and stayed the night after going to the park. That way we could have taken a break in our room as needed – especially nice if you are traveling with a little one.

We were able to make use of the family locker rooms before leaving which was helpful – that way my husband could help me get the girls out of their wet clothes and ready for the journey home.

We stopped by the amazing candy shop located near the check in desk on our way out of the resort Saturday evening and picked up some treats for the road. In a word they were amazing. The 5 year old had no complaints either:

While the noise and experience was a bit overwhelming for my shy 16 month old, my 5 year old and husband could not have had a better time. I’m looking forward to going back again to explore the rest of the park – we truly only hit a fraction of it in our 24 hrs there.

If you are considering Kalahari Resorts for a fun weekend away, be sure to check out this exclusive offer.

In addition, 1 lucky family of 4 is going to win a FREE 1-night stay at the Kalahari Resort of their choice, including access to the indoor/outdoor theme parks, bowling & golfing. This prize is valued at over $200!

I’ve never been to an indoor water park but looks like it would be a blast. Especially around Halloween or Thanksgiving! Great way to beat the cabin fever in the chilly Ohio winter!

LOVE Kalahari!!! We went in March for our son’s 6th birthday…… just last week, he and a friend were ‘packing’ and pretending that they were going to Kalahari!!! It’s that awesome!

3 Holly September 15, 2011 at 2:02 PM

I would love to go there! I’ve had many friends go and say how awesome it is and we’ve wanted to check out the water park. We also have a son with major allergies to food which prohibits us from going out to eat….so the suite with kitchen would be PERFECT for us! Pick me! :)

We are up in WI and love to go to the WI Dells which has the Kalahari and other indoor waterparks. It is a great getaway for winter and my two girls love swimming. We haven’t ever been to the Kalahari before.

I think being able to spend a good part of the day in the water park and then hit the bowling alley after dinner would be great! What a nice get away!

My family went to a Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells about 8 years ago. We only stayed one night and wished we could do it again. I love splashing around with the kids and going down the water slides. But the best part is after all the fun at the park we all love just to soak in the hot tub. That’s the best top to the ice cream sundae experience.

12 andrea September 15, 2011 at 2:25 PM

I woudl love to go. It woudl be an awesome break for these WNY weathers.. Looks like a neat place.

18 Darcy Tabis September 15, 2011 at 3:38 PM

My family tries to get to Wisconsin Dells once a year or more. We’ve stayed at the Kalahari there and it is WONDERFUL! I love the fact that you really don’t even need to leave, they have everything there you could possibly need! Get a room with one of the kitchens init and save money by bringing your own groceries. Everyone has fun here!!!

I am a single mother of a wonderful 10year old girl. Each semester I try to plan a special treat for my daughters hard work in school and at home. I have to keep it simple due to my current financial situation(lost job). This opportunity to enjoy a beautiful, fun and exciting water park would be an AMAZING treat for her. She loves water parks and I have not been able to take her to one for the past 3 years. She understands our finances changed but I know she still misses being able to go to a hotel, water park, amusement parks or any place that costs more than $25. This vacation would mean the world to us both and provide all of the special opportunities she use to be able to participate in. Thank You Becky D
