Giveaway: Kroger “Chex Holiday Recipes” Prize Pack w/$25 Kroger Gift Card

by Marcy on December 2, 2010 · 346 comments

Kroger and Chex Cereal have joined forces to help you whip up recipes for your holiday entertaining that are quick to prepare and easy on your budget! I love making Chex mix – for parties, for my 4 year old’s preschool snack, or just to have on hand at home. They are quick and easy to make and even picky eaters can usually find some element of the mix that they like. :-)

Here are two mixes that you can make in the microwave in 15 minutes:

Starting today (12/2/10) through December 25, 2010, the Kroger family of stores will be offering Chex Cereal an their lowest prices of the year! Pair these low prices with coupons (find Chex Cereal coupons here) and you can score a great deal on this cereal! You can visit Kroger and Chex on Facebook to“Like” their pages and keep up with recipes, news and the latest product information.

My personal favorite when it comes to Chex recipes is Chex Muddy Buddies (otherwise known as puppy chow or monkey munch!). What’s not to love when it comes to chocolate and peanut butter, paired with nice crisp Chex Cereal? YUM! As you can see from the pictures below, I had a little help making them tonight. :-)

Here is the recipe:

Chex Muddy Buddies

Recipe Courtesy of Chex

Prep Time: 15 min

Start to Finish: 15 min

Makes: 18 servings (1/2 cup each)

Ingredients

9 cups Rice Chex®, Corn Chex® or Chocolate Chex® cereal (or combination)

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/4 cup butter or margarine

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Preparation Directions

1. Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside.

2. In 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on High 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag.

3. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

I’m excited that one of you is going to win a great prize pack that will allow you to concoct your very own Chex creation, just in time for the holidays!

The recipe you showed above as Chex Muddy Buddies is very similar to my favorite Chex recipe, Puppy Chow. The Puppy Chow also has peanut butter in it! My sister used to make it all the time when I was little (she’s about 9 years older than me.) Mmmm…I might have to make some soon!

My favorite Chex Mix recipe is the original one, although I add extra worcestershire sauce, margarine, and a little extra seasoned salt.

I LOVE the idea of the Muddy Buddies recipe – I’m going to have to try that, because peanut butter and chocolate is my favorite taste combination!
