Giveaway: Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat

by Marcy on September 8, 2010 · 253 comments

Child Passenger Safety Week is September 19-25 – and if you are the parent of a young child, it is the perfect time for you to revisit car seat safety. Knowing when to switch your child from an infant seat, to a convertible seat, to a booster seat can be confusing. Find more info about child passenger safety here.

Speaking of booster seats, many states now require that kids be in a booster, and CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia) Research has shown that the using a belt-positioning booster seats reduces the risk of injury to children by nearly 60 percent compared to the use of seat belts alone.

Recently I was given the opportunity to review the (new this year!) Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat. We had just moved our 4.5 year old into a booster about a month prior to receiving the Chicco Strada, and I was excited to compare the 2 seats. The seat that we purchased was a $40 basic model that we picked up at Target, and while it does the job we have found the Chicco Strada to be more comfortable and better made overall.

Some features of the Chicco KeyFit Strada include:

  • Easy to install and use
  • Made for kids ages 4-10, 38″-57″ tall and 33-100 pounds
  • Triple zone side-impact protection (extra padded)
  • Height and Width are both adjustable
  • Fabric Cover is removable and machine washable
  • Converts to backless booster for kids 40-100 lbs

As I mentioned, we feel that the Chicco KeyFit Strada is better made than the cheaper booster we had purchased previously. If I had to choose my favorite feature it would be that the seat adjusts to the size of your child. I love that the seat belt is held back by the orange “clip” (seen in the picture above), so that my daughter no longer complains about her neck being sore from the belt. An added plus is that she can comfortably sleep in this seat because of the padded headrest. The Chicco KeyFit Strada was named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety “Best Bet” as well. You can view the IIHS rankings here. Learn more about the Chicco KeyFit Strada Booster Seat here.

I love the seat belt strap holder too. I remember always complaining about the seat belt when I was little and it’s nice to know my daughter won’t have to do the same.

The adjustable seat sounds good. I need a good booster for my 7 & 10 year olds, they still don’t meet the height requirements.

14 Judy September 8, 2010 at 9:33 AM

I like the seat belt clip. The kids always complain about the seatbelt rubbing their neck.

15 tiff rafferty September 8, 2010 at 9:34 AM

56 Erika September 8, 2010 at 11:26 AM

I loved my chicco infant carrier and I love that they have boosters too. Saftey and comfort are the #1 things I look for in a carseat.

I really like the headrest. The booster my son is in now is hard to sleep in. My daughter is getting ready to be moved from a car seat to a booster soon so this would be a great prize for us!

59 Juli Abdon September 8, 2010 at 11:33 AM

Hello! I think the best feature for my daughter would be the padded headrest. As of now she has a really hard time getting comfy while riding in the car so this may help her to take a little nap!

Since all of the grandparents live over 2 hours away – along with our other road trips! – my son spends a lot of time in his carseat, so comfort is a high priority for us!

I love the extra padding and the fact the headrest is adjustable. I drive a Jeep and it doesn’t have headrests so that is very important to me.

233 Jodi September 9, 2010 at 9:53 PM

I love that it looks like the lap belt looks like it would have a good fit due to the cut out areas of the arm rests. Less than two weeks ago I moved my almost 5 year old into a highback booster, and I feel like the lap belt doesn’t have a snug fit.

Saftey is ALWAYS my number one when looking to buy anything for my kids. Therefore, the feature I best like is that the “backrest adjusts up and sidewings adjust out for maximum protection of head, shoulder and lumbar zones.” My son is turning four soon and this would be perfect as we have been looking to upgrade. On the Today show the other day they talked about many different booster seats and how a lot of them fail the test for safety. I am really impressed with the Chicco Strada. Thanks for the oppurtunity. Becca

240 Becky Pace September 10, 2010 at 12:00 PM

I love the fact that the booster seat allows for the the seatbelt to be held back with clips. My little ones are always pulling at the seatbelt to get it off of their necks.
