Sticking to a Budget as a Stockpiler….is it Possible?

by Marcy on September 19, 2008 · 0 comments

Recently, one of my girlfriends asked me if I think it is possible to be a stockpiler (i.e. buying lots of what you need when it is at its cheapest price) AND to stick to a budget.

I wanted to say “YES, it is TOTALLY possible.” But then I thought “hey…I haven’t hit my grocery budget even ONCE this year…is it possible that stockpiling is sabotaging me?”

I have been mulling this over for several days now, and I think that part of my problem is that I never seem to take a week off from deal chasing. If I were to say no to stockpiling for a month, and eat what we have on hand, I would probably come in UNDER budget. Which is at least part of the point, right?

What do you think? Have you found an effective way to stockpile and stay within your budget? Maybe you set aside a certain amount of money each week to spend only on “deals”, and once it is gone it is gone. Maybe you take a week off from stockpiling each month. Or maybe I am overthinking this entirely! I would love to hear your thoughts!
