Coupon Organization

Recently a friend of mine asked me how I organize my coupons, and if I would post some info about coupon organization.

Being the crazy coupon lady that I am, one would assume that I have some handy dandy way of keeping all of my coupons straight, right? Sadly, like most things in my life, I am not very organized at all. In fact, when I got this email from my friend, I had coupons strewn all over my kitchen counter because I was working on my grocery list for the week. I thought I would take a picture for your enjoyment (and no this was not staged):

Needless to say, my little purple coupon file has seen better days. And so I thought I would check out some of my favorite “deal” blogs for some inspiration as there is no sense in reinventing the wheel. Plus these ladies have a lot more experience than I do when it comes to these things!

As I suspected, my fellow coupon loving bloggers did not disappoint. There are several different methods of organizing coupons, as you can see below:

* Crystal discusses her use of an index card box and envelopes here.

* Rachel discusses her coupon binder here.

* Tasha discusses her use of multiple coupon organizers here.

And for the mother of all posts about couponing, check out Laura’s post here. There is also a short and to the point article about all of these methods here.

Personally, I think that I am going to attempt to put together a coupon binder. I typically pull the coupons that I am going to use for each store and put them in an envelope which I throw in my bag. (Money Saving Tip: I pay my bills online, so I reuse the envelopes that come with my bills that I used to throw away…that way I am not wasting envelopes). I happen to have an old Franklin Covey binder sitting in my basement collecting dust that I’m pretty sure will be perfect for this project! I will be sure to post about my progress once I get started on this project.

Ultimately, as with most things, no one solution is going to work for everyone. Try a few of these methods out, and see what works best for you. And once you find it, stick with it! :)

What about you? What tips do you have about coupon organization? Please feel free to comment or leave a link to your blog post(s) about coupon organization.
