Estate Planning

Whew! My husband and I FINALLY got THAT checked off of our “to do” list! After many months of dragging our feet, we finally met with a lawyer one final time to complete our Estate Planning documents (a Will, Living Will and Durable Power of Attorney). It makes me giggle to say “Estate” planning…like we have much of an “estate” at this point in our lives!

Last year we signed up for Group Legal coverage through my husband’s employer so that we could save money on having these documents drawn up. I’m still not sure what the final tab will be, but I am pretty sure that the insurance will pay for all of it.

This has been a major thorn in our side for awhile now…after all, who really wants to think about what will happen to your kids if something happens to both of you? However, it is really important to have things in order…for your peace of mind, and to help direct your family should something happen.

My question for today is, have you taken care of your estate planning documents, and if so, how have you attempted to save money when having these drawn up (if at all?). Have any of you drafted your own documents using online templates? Or have you not even thought about doing this yet?
