Works for me Wednesday: Inexpensive Toddler Distraction

Today’s tip is about an easy and mostly free way I have found to have entertainment on hand for my daughter when we are waiting at the doctor’s office, or anywhere that isn’t kid friendly.

Every time we go out to eat with our daughter, we seem to get a small pack of crayons with her kids menu. I always thought it was such a waste that they would likely be thrown away after we left the restaurant (especially the Crayola ones!).

What I decided to do was to collect these crayons in a small ziploc baggie in my bag. I then threw in a couple of small notebooks that I found in the $1.00 section at Target, so that whenever I need a quick distraction, I can pull out the baggie and she can color. If she loses a crayon, no biggie…it was “free”. This also keeps the crayons that she uses at home in one spot, because I’m not having to borrow from them to take with us when we go places.

This has saved me many times…like last night when we were shopping for curtains in a department store.
