Who Knew?

I enjoyed this post by S.B. about employer paid graduate school. It made me laugh because when I think back on my early and mid-twenties, I never associate the word “frugal” with those years at all!

However, I guess I did make one frugal decision, because I did take advantage of my previous employer’s tuition reimbursement program. I am a bit of a school junkie, and would attend college classes to this day if I could go for free. Upon graduating with my bachelor’s degree, I took a whopping 5 months off before starting on my master’s degree. I wanted to take advantage of the free tuition, and I also knew that I wanted to complete it before I had kids. It took me 3 1/2 years to finish…taking 1-2 classes per quarter.

Even though I am not working outside of the home right now, I hope to return to some form of work some day. Hopefully having my degrees will enable me to explore a wide range of job options. If not, I am still happy that I took the time to do it, if anything for the personal satisfaction that I have gotten from it.

It is kind of nice to realize that I did something frugal without trying to, because lately I am making my brain hurt trying to come up with ways to save money!! :)

How about you? Can you think back on something you have done in your life that you didn’t realize was frugal at the time?
